Well we may all know the popular poker games but here is a brief description of some free poker games you will find online.
Texas Holdem
Well this one we all know. A community card game that can seat the most players a ta table of any poker game - up to 11 players in some casinos!! But most online poker tables have 2, 5, 6 or 9. Four rounds of betting with a no limit structure being the most popular. Also has 2 blinds, a small and a big blind that are forced bets and rotate around the table. This game is position specific and a delicate part of the game to master.
Omaha
Omaha poker is also a community card poker game like Texas Holdem but the difference is that each player is dealt 4 cards rather than two and they must use 2 cards from their hand and 3 of the 5 cards from the community to make the best hand. This is often the hardest part of Omaha to adjust to, because you often have to ignore a better hand combination using only one of your cards. Omaha poker is a little tougher to master than Texas Holdem, becuase essentially it is a drawing game, rather than a betting game like Holdem.
Omaha Poker takes a lot of practice to perfect. If you have already played hold'em then you will have a no trouble picking this game up and the betting structure, but there will be huge adjustments in betting and drawing odds calculations.
Omaha8
This game is also known as Omaha Hi-Lo and is the biggest drawing game out there becuase of the number of cards a player gets to see, and the split pot potential. Usually a limit style game, but there is a lot of pot limit too. This game, becuase of the hi and low pots is quite different from Omaha in that most pots are split. To win in omaha8 you have win win the whole pot, high and low to make big upswings with your stack. This is one of Sammy Farha's favorite games.
7 Card Sud
This poker game has much more history with it. If you want to see a good movie featuring 7 card stud, watch The Cincinatti Kid with Steve McQuenn. Of course with every Poker game, play in 7 it has an ante or a bring-in which is decided by the lowest card showing face up. That card is accompanied by two cards face down, then 3 more face up, and the final card face down - all with betting rounds in between. It is not a community poker game, and each player has his own cards to make or fold a hand. The secret to winning 7 card stud is thight play and remembering all the folded up cards. There are a lot of fun poker game variations to 7stud that developed from creative home-game players on the kitchen table.
